The Lutheran churches are the inheritors of more than five centuries of reformation begun in Europe by Martin Luther to protest abuses that had developed in the early church. Luther’s wish in his “protestant reformation” was to instill in all believers an understanding of the free gift of God’s grace as a way to salvation, and of the necessity for members of his “reformed” church to bring a Christian spirit into their daily lives – to become, as it were, a “priesthood of all believers.” Lutherans have been in America for a full century before our Revolution and today number 6.8 million+ in the United States and 77 million worldwide.
St. Timothy Lutheran Church is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (New Jersey Synod), one of the largest Christian denominations in America, with about 3.3 million members in nearly 8,900 congregations across the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
With the wider church we are heirs to more than five centuries of reformation begun by Martin Luther. As inheritor of nearly twenty-one centuries of Christian history, we are a church deeply rooted in Scripture, the Nicene and Apostles’ Creeds, and the Lutheran Confessions. Our hope and our confidence are based in God’s grace – the salvation of God freely given.
With the whole Christian church we confess that the church is the Body of Christ on earth, called, gathered, enlightened, and sanctified by the Holy Spirit. We gather weekly to hear the word of God proclaimed and assemble around the altar to receive the body and blood of Christ in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

St. Timothy has served this community since 1957. In addition to our gathering for worship each week, we offer Christian education for all ages, and participate in a wide variety of service programs and projects serving Wayne and the wider community. We invite you to join our fellowship of faith.
